  12.   Myself, being one of the originators of SGAnet -- the predecessor of 
  13.   SGA-Net -- and the first sysop to attempt to run it on VBBS, has written 
  14.   this guideline to help make it easier for you to do than it was for me.  
  15.   Good luck... it's really quite simple if you follow the guidelines listed 
  16.   here.

  20.   REQUIREMENTS
  21.   ------------

  23.   You don't really need much, just a working VBBS setup, the utility known
  24.   as VFIDO and a current version of the SGA-Net nodelist.  If you desire to 
  25.   be in the BRE League 301, you will need a copy of the game (preferably 
  26.   registered!)  You will also find that a high-speed modem will be quite 
  27.   beneficial to networking with any network.  You will also need to define 
  28.   an open "slot" in your networks list.  (See "Needed Directories & Files" 
  29.   section below)

  32.   VFIDO INTERFACE
  33.   ---------------
  34.  
  35.   So what is this VFIDO thingy?  Well, it's the utility that VBBS requires 
  36.   to network with "type-4 networks".  SGA-Net uses a netmail message format
  37.   that is known as Hudson.  Hudson echomail/netmail messages are files 
  38.   numbered sequentially with a .MSG extension.  VFIDO provides the EMSI 
  39.   handshaking that works with mailers such as FrontDoor, complete with 
  40.   passwords and such.  It then converts these hudson type packets to the 
  41.   format used by VBBS.  I would strongly suggest the version of VFIDO you 
  42.   use be 6.00.04 or 6.00.01!  There was a version included with VBBS v6.1 
  43.   (VFIDO6.10.00) that works very poorly with the EMSI handshaking and should 
  44.   be avoided!

  46.   VFIDO600.04 is a zipped file and needs to be "unzipped".  The internal 
  47.   file VFIDO.EXE should be copied into your VBBS main Directory (typically 
  48.   C:\VBBS).

  51.   NEEDED DIRECTORIES AND FILES
  52.   ----------------------------

  54.   - Place VFIDO in your MAIN directory. (Typically C:\VBBS)
  55.  
  56.   - Create a subdirectory called SGANET under your MAIN directory.
  57.     (Typically C:\VBBS\SGANET)
  58.  
  59.   - Create subdirectories called NETMAIL and OUTBOUND 
  60.     (if not already existing)
  61.     (Typically C:\VBBS\NETMAIL and C:\VBBS\OUTBOUND)
  62.  
  63.   - In your DATA directory (typically C:\VBBS\DATA), you find a file named
  64.     NETWORKS.LST that you will need to edit slightly.  Find the line in the
  65.     file corresponding to your open network slot.  Edit that line to read as
  66.     follows:

  68.     15,4,SGA-Net
  69.  
  70.     This means it is slot #15, network type 4 and named SGA-Net.  If your 
  71.     slot number is not 15, simply substitute your slot number where the 15 
  72.     is.  Make sure the line doesn't conflict with another line with the same 
  73.     slot number.

  75.   - Create a file named LOCALNET.xx (where xx= slot number, i.e. LOCALNET.15)
  76.     Put "SGA-Net" on the first line and "4" on the second line.
  77.     Put this file in your DATA directory.
  78.  
  79.   - Obtain a copy of the file "VFIDO.FON" from me if you are going to be a
  80.     client of mine in the Dallas area.  Read the VBBS doc file "MULTINET.DOC"
  81.     for the full explanation of this file.  Place it in your DATA directory.
  82.     (Typically C:\VBBS\DATA)  This is a file that determines which numbers
  83.     are to be dialed as long distance (use the area code, etc.)

  85.   - Put the nodelist file (SGANODE.xxx) in your NETMAIL directory.

  88.   CONFIGURATION (VCONFIG)
  89.   -----------------------
  90.  
  91.   - In the "Main Configuration" section (1), screen #3,
  92.     set "FIDOnet detection" ("K" in VBBS v6.10) to "Yes".
  93.  
  94.   - In the "Network Configuration" section (7), fill in the sections
  95.     under your SGA-Net slot to look like this:
  96.  
  97.     1. Fido Address:       30:301/214      <-- Make this YOUR SGA-Net node!!
  98.     2. NetMail Directory:  C:\VBBS\NETMAIL
  99.     3. OutBound Directory: C:\VBBS\OUTBOUND
  100.     4. Archiver:           PAK
  101.     5. UnArchiver:         PAK
  102.     6. FIDO Front-End:     Standalone
  103.     7. Nodelist:           SGANODE
  104.     8. Zones:              30-30
  105.  
  106.   - Now hit "D" for configuring the dial list.
  107.     Hit "1" and enter your SERVERS SGA-Net node #.
  108.     Hit "2" and enter your SERVERS phone number.
  109.     Hit "4" if it is listed as "TSYNCH", make sure it says "EMSI (FSC-0056)
  110.     Do not enter a session password unless overwise instructed by your 
  111.     server!
  112.     Exit this menu by hitting the <ESC> key.
  113.  
  114.   - Now hit "R" for configuring routing.
  115.     Hit "A" to add one line and then hit "E" to edit that line.
  116.     On the line enter "30:301/214 30:*/*", this will route all SGA-Net 
  117.     messages to your server (if your server is NOT 30:301/214, then change 
  118.     this node number to that of your server.)

  121.   COMPILATIONS
  122.   ------------

  124.   - Whenever ANY changes are made to the configuration of this network, you
  125.     will need to "recompile" that information.  To do this, go to the VBBS 
  126.     main directory and enter the command: VFIDO /C NETWORKID=15
  127.     The networkID # is the same as the slot number you used while 
  128.     configuring.  If slot #15 is not what you used, then use the appropriate 
  129.     number instead.

  131.   - Also, you need to compile the nodelist.  This also should be done every 
  132.     time you receive an updated SGA-Net nodelist file.  To do this, go to 
  133.     the VBBS main directory and enter the command: VFIDO /A NETWORKID=15
  134.     Follow the same guidlines as above for slot numbers other than 15.

  138.   SETTING UP NETMAIL AND ECHOMAIL AREAS
  139.   -------------------------------------

  141.   - First of all, you may find that you will be known under a REAL name on
  142.     the SGA-Net nodelist and if you are currently using a "handle" on the 
  143.     BBS you will not receive netmail addressed to your real name.  This can 
  144.     be fixed quickly by doing the following procedure:
  145.  
  146.       A) Go to your User Editor and change your handle to your real name.
  147.          Don't worry, this is only temporary.
  148.  
  149.       B) Go to your DATA directory and delete the file "USER.KEY".
  150.  
  151.       C) Force VBBS to create a new USER.KEY file by writing a message to
  152.          yourself under your real name via SGA-Net.  If you did this right,
  153.          there should now be a new USER.KEY file.
  154.  
  155.       D) After the new USER.KEY file appears, you may go into the user editor
  156.          and return your handle to your previous handle. You should now
  157.          receive netmail sent to your real name, even though you are using a
  158.          handle on the BBS and VirtualNet.
  159.  
  160.   - To setup the message bases, follow this procedure:
  161.  
  162.       A) Go into VCONFIG and hit "3" for "Database Configuration".
  163.  
  164.       B) Go to "Message Bases" and the topic area where you want SGA-Net.
  165.  
  166.       C) Hit the F1 key and select "Add a New Database"
  167.  
  168.       D) Enter your desired setup for maximum messages, QWK #, etc.
  169.          Set "Handle/Real name/Anon." to REAL NAME please.
  170.  
  171.       E) After the base is created, go into that base's
  172.          "Networks Configuration"  (This should be the "G" key)
  173.  
  174.       F) Hit "A" for add and enter both the the echo TAGNAME *and* your 
  175.          SERVERS SGA-Net node number. Example:  SGA_GENERAL 30:301/214
  176.  
  177.       G) Repeat steps B though F for all desired echoes.  Make sure that 
  178.          your server knows which ones you've selected!
  179.  
  180.       H) Compile the new information by running VFIDO /C NETWORKID=15.
